Wild weather is on the way with a warning issued for parts of Perth, the South West and Great Southern.

A strong cold front producing severe thunderstorms is set to hit on Wednesday afternoon with several areas in the firing line including Mandurah, Rockingham, Bunbury, Margaret River and Perth.

Damaging winds with gusts of up to 100km/h are forecast along with heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding.

Bureau Meteorologist Jessica Lingard said conditions are set to ease by Thursday morning.

"The worst of the conditions will be through this evening into the overnight period tonight and as that main line of the cold front clears to the east, we will see an easing in conditions," she said.

"However behind this cold front there will still be showers possibly even some small hail stones as well."

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people prepare their properties before the weather hits.

This includes packing away or securing outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around the home.
