Upgrades to begin at Point Peron Boat Launching Facility

Works to upgrade the Point Peron Boat Launching Facility will begin this week.

In response to growing demand for boat launching facilities in Rockingham, the City of Rockingham is constructing two additional boat ramps at the Point Peron Boat Launching Facility.

Upgrades will include works on the existing rock revetment wall and the delivery of new reversing bays for the new boat ramps. Works are scheduled to be completed in June 2020.

During the upgrades access to the northern boat ramps will be impacted, limiting launching capacity and the ability to retrieve vessels. Modified traffic conditions will be in place throughout the project.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the works would give boat users increased access to the water once complete.

“Following growing demand from recreational boat users across the community for increased boat launching facilities, the City will be carrying out important upgrades at Point Peron to add two new concrete boat ramps,” Mayor Sammels said.

“The City was successful in securing 75% of the funding for the project through the State Government’s Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme. Boat users can look forward to using the new facilities in mid-2020.

“The City apologises for any inconvenience caused, however, the work has to be timed to occur after the busy summer period, before winter sets in, and to meet the requirements of the funding arrangements.”

During peak boating periods the City encourages recreational boat users to use alternative boat ramps including Palm Beach boat ramp, Bent Street boat ramp, the Donald Drive over sand ramp and the Carlisle Street over sand ramp.

The boat trailer and car parking facilities in the area will be upgraded in 2020/2021.
