New data from the RAC says December 23 has been the most reported day for car crashes the last three years.
We're being told to slow down and keep alert on our roads this weekend, as new data from the RAC suggest December 23 is the busiest day for motor accidents of the year.
RAC Insurance Claims Manager Glen Walker said RAC claims data shows that over the past three years, the highest number of crash claims were for incidents occurring on the 23rd of December.
The company's data shows one crash approximately every seven minutes, which works out to around 190 crashes every December 23.
This year the eve of Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday, and with families heading away for the holidays we're being asked to stick to speed limits and road rules.
"Our advice to motorists is to be patient, considerate and safe. Stick to the speed limit, be courteous when changing lanes or merging, and allow enough travel time if you are taking road trips during the holiday season," Mr Walker said.
For the last three years December 23 has consistently been the date with the most crashes reported.
Remember double demerits will kick in around WA from Friday and will remain in place until January 7.
Double demerits apply to speeding, drink and drug driving, running a red light, using mobile phones behind the wheel and failing to wear a seat belt.
