A Halls Head street was brought to a standstill on the weekend after a pigeon became trapped on a rooftop TV antenna.

RSPCA WA received a call from a concerned member of the public about the bird, which was entangled in fishing line on the antenna.

"Inspector Flo attended the rescue and quickly realised she’d need some help to reach the pigeon. She contacted the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA, who kindly agreed to assist – bringing in the big guns," an RSPCA spokesperson said.

Inspector Flo and firefighters from Mandurah and Fremantle worked for around an hour to retrieve the pigeon, which was distressed and badly injured.

He was rushed straight to a local vet but sadly could not be saved due to the extent of his injuries.

"While it wasn’t the happy ending we were hoping for, this mammoth effort is a testament to the rescuers, and to the amazing firefighters who dropped everything to help save our feathered friend from further suffering."
