The Village Green in Rockingham came alive with the sounds of classical and film favourites, as a large crowd gathered to enjoy the City of Rockingham’s Symphony on the Green music spectacular.

The event on Saturday February 18 featured a stunning orchestral performance from the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), led by conductor Jen Winley.

Classics such as Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss and Swinging on a Star by Jimmy Van Heusen featured, as well as Saint Saen’s iconic Danse Macabre.

There were also musical surprises with soundtracks from the Star Wars, Harry Potter, ET and Skyfall films, while David Bowie’s Starman, Aretha Franklin’s RESPECT and Queen’s We are the Champions also thrilled concertgoers.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin thanked the community for turning up in large numbers and making Symphony on the Green a major success once again.

“Symphony on the Green continues to be one of the City’s most popular Summer Series events, and this year for the first time ever the City was delighted to partner with WASO to deliver an evening of stunning orchestral music,” Mayor Hamblin said.

“The event not only helps to grow and nurture community connectedness and wellbeing, it also helps to actively pursue tourism and economic development – and these are two key aspirations in our Strategic Community Plan.

“Coming up the City is excited to be presenting more Summer Series events including the Multicultural Festival on Friday 17 March and Performance in the Park – Cinderella on Saturday 25 March. We hope to see you there.”
