New WA Health Department figures show elective surgery wait times at Rockingham Hospital are one of the highest in the Perth area.
Figures for the end of September show there was a 9 per cent increase on the previous year with 21,335 West Australians waiting for publicly funded elective surgery.
The West Australian reports more than 1300 patients waited longer than recommended times for their surgery, with many queued for plastic surgery, urology and ear, nose and throat surgery.
216 category 1 patients were waiting longer than the recommended 30 days
The overall elective surgery wait was an average 72 days, up one day from last year.
Perth hospitals with the longest average waiting times were Joondalup Health Campus, Royal Perth Hospital and Bentley and Rockingham hospitals.
Australian Medical Association WA president Omar Khorshid told The West Australian no serious dent could be made to waiting lists unless more funding was provided.
“The figures show the pattern we’ve been seeing for a while and at the end of the day they’re the direct result of the amount of purchased activity that the Government is buying from the hospitals."
