Construction of a new single-lane roundabout at a busy intersection in Pinjarra is set to get underway next month.
The $2.3 million State funded roundabout at Pinjarra Road and Murray Street is set to reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes.
It will also improve pedestrian safety, with new paths to be constructed across both Pinjarra Road and Murray Street.
The new connections will address the current lack of dedicated crossing points on either road.
The project will also feature upgrades to street lighting and bus stops.
During construction, there will be a number of detours on both Pinjarra Road and Murray Street, impacting traffic and path users.
"This is an incredibly busy intersection, with nearly 15,000 vehicle movements every single day along Pinjarra Road and Murray Street," Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said.
"The installation of a roundabout at this intersection will reduce the risk and severity of crashes, with a particular focus on addressing pedestrian safety with the inclusion of key connections for path users.
"We have listened to businesses and residents in the area, and noting pedestrian activity is high in the townsite, it is pleasing to see this project will cater for foot traffic once completed."
Construction is expected to begin in mid-September, with completion expected by the end of the year.
