Premier Mark McGowan today presented a Lotterywest grant of $985,000 to the City of Rockingham for the fit-out and refurbishment of the Rockingham Youth Centre.

The centre, on Mackinnon Street, will create a safe space where young people can hang out without the fear of being moved on, and learn new skills.

When up and running, the Centre will host a range of early intervention and prevention workshops, skill development sessions, forums and community events alongside leadership programs including: Youth Reference Group, Junior Council, Skate Park Reference Group, and employability, life skills and recreation and cultural skills development opportunities; as well as being a place to meet friends and have fun.

The Centre will also house spaces for study, along with leadership, art and recreation programs.

Premier Mark McGowan said the number of Rockingham residents aged 12-24 is expected to increase by about 10,600 by 2036, so it's important vital infrastructure and services are in place to cater for growing demand.

"Rockingham is one of the fastest growing cities in the State and projects like this are helping to create a prosperous and well connected community," Mr McGowan said.
