A Mongols bikie member has been charged after allegedly being found in possession of a modified firearm.

The 29-year-old accused was spotted travelling in a black Jeep Cherokee in Merriwa as a passenger around 4pm on April 23.

Police Airwing tracked the vehicle before it was brought to a stop by police and the man was arrested.

During a search of the man's Cooloongup home, police allegedly seized an illegal firearm.

"It will be alleged; the 29-year-old man, who does not hold a current firearms licence, was in possession of a Ruger .22 Calibre Semi-automatic Rifle," a WA Police spokesperson.

"It will be further alleged; the firearm had been modified to enable single-handed discharge."

The man has been charged with one count of unlawfully possessing a handgun, prohibited firearm, or major part of a handgun or prohibited firearm.

He is next due to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on April 28, 2025.

Commander Gordon Fairman said outlaw motorcycle gangs and their associated criminal activity is not welcome in Western Australia.

“We will not tolerate the criminal activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs and we will continue to stamp out this kind of dangerous behaviour.”

“The reckless disregard for the community’s safety by OMCG members and associated, including incidents involving firearms, is unacceptable, and we are focused on taking these weapons out of the hands of these serious offenders.”
