Reducing alcohol related crime, violence and anti-social behaviour are the next steps for the Mandurah Liquor Accord.
Members of the Mandurah Liquor Accord set priorities for the next two years aiming to secure the safety and security of the local community during Sunday's strategic planning session.
The Accord consists of 37 official member organisations including the City of Mandurah, WA Police, Mandurah Taxis and local business operators.
The key focuses of the planning session were on reduced anti-social behaviour in and around licensed venues, reduced alcohol-related violence, ill health and other harm, increased responsible service of alcohol, and promoting Mandurah as a safe and vibrant destination.
Mayor Rhys Williams said community safety was a shared responsibility and was pleased to see the Mandurah Liquor Accord continue to join together to deliver important outcomes for the community.
He said the accord is a vital component of making our community feel safe.
“The City of Mandurah and the Mandurah Liquor Accord continue to tackle alcohol-related issues head on, and we are continually monitoring challenges that we face," He said.
The meeting comes after a year of alcohol related incidents surrounding Mandurah's nightlife and licensed venues.
The Accord makes up part of the City of Mandurah's Community Safety and Crime Prevention Partnership Plan 2017-2022.
Over the past five years, the Mandurah Liquor Accord has made some significant achievements including the introduction of a number of public safety and community programs.
Some people might remember the Hit the Gym, not Jim campaign and the Pilot Radio Project, designed to improve communication between licensed.
They're also responsible for Safer Mandurah Taxi Ranks and family friendly signage around the Foreshore.
The City continues to work with State and Federal government, businesses, community groups and residents to ensure community safety and crime prevention has a well-rounded approach.
