A family near Mandurah are asking for the public's help to find their missing dog Koda.

The tri-coloured Cavalier escaped his family's yard in Parklands around 4.30pm on Saturday, September 23.

While looking for him, owner Michelle Croft recieved a strange phone call that was later revealed to be from a pay phone at the Mandurah Forum.

"We’ve ran over your dog, he’s dead, we’ve given him a proper burial, stop looking for him," the caller said.

Ms Croft said they hung up and when she called back no one answered.

She said her mobile number was on Koda's collar.

"After calling for over an hour someone else answered and said they are at the Mandurah forum payphone," she said.

"I can only hope that he’s alive and that someone has taken him (he’s very friendly and would have gone willingly) - there may still be a chance we’ll get him back.

"He has a name tag, registration and is microchipped.

"Our family is distraught and if he has really been hit and killed we just need some closure.

"We definitely take some responsibility in this as he would escape any chance he got and we had already tried various ways to keep him in."

The family have notified local police and rangers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
