The State Opposition has joined a number of punters in airing their disappointment with the McGowan Governments decision to ban ride sharing at the new Optus Stadium.
Opposition Leader Mike Nahan said if reports that the Government would also be refusing access to Victoria Park Drive to vehicles other than taxis were true it would be a very sad day for West Australians.
"Perth Stadium is an iconic venue that all West Australians must be able to access and enjoy,” Dr Nahan said.
“It would be dreadful to think elderly people, who have been attending AFL games most of their lives, will not be able to be dropped at the game by family or friends, or that all legitimate pay-to-ride services will not be able to take patrons to the venue.
“The Perth Stadium is for all West Australians not just a privileged few."
It was only days ago a report from The West said ride sharing companies wouldn't be allowed to use the taxi ranks outside the new stadium.
A number of Liberal Politicians have spoken up about the ban, taking to twitter as a chance to dig at Premier McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.
Dawesville MP Zak Kirkup said the ban on ride-sharing apps was absurd and made no sense expect to protect a less-popular monopoly.
"Taxpayers deserve to use any lawful means to get to and from the stadium that they paid for," he said in a Twitter statement.
Dr Nahan said it would also be completely hypocritical of the State Government to impose its planned 10 per cent tax on ride-sharing patrons and then dictate when and where people could use the service.
He also raised the question of arrangements for people with disabilities accessing transport to and from the stadium.
"The Premier needs to explain to West Australians if and why be is going to prevent ride sharing services and private cars accessing the Perth Stadium precinct during events," he said.
The McGowan Labor Govt has already told West Australians that unless you’re lucky enough to be in a VIP seat you can’t drink full-strength beer, and now they’re saying only those with VIP parking will be allowed to drive anywhere near the stadium. #NannyState
