Former WAFL and AFL player Colin Sylvia has fronted court and pleaded guilty for using a stolen credit card at a Melbourne brothel.

Fairfax reports Sylvia, who played 11 games for Peel across 2014 and 2015, pleaded guilty to several charges in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday including fraud charges.

It's understood the 32-year-old used credit card details that were not his, to buy two one-hour sessions at the now closed Daily Planet at Elsternwick.

The court heard that each session cost upward of $300.

The credit card details Sylvia used came from a customer, where he copied their details to his phone while working at a Renault dealership in Port Melbourne.

He was later sacked from the job.

Sylvia's lawyer Belinda Franjic said the offences could be traced back to a time where his troubled state of mind was triggered from retiring from professional football.

She told the magistrate Sylvia had repaid the victim and asked for a community-based sentence over a jail term.

According to Fairfax Deputy chief magistrate Jelena Popovic said she had a hard time believing if Sylvia fully accepted responsibility for his actions.

"This is a court where you see many people who had very unfortunate and disagreeable backgrounds," she said.

"When you come across someone who seemingly has everything - there is a real disconnect."

This wasn't Sylvia's first time in front of a court room, at the end of last year he also pleaded guilty after he was caught entering a vacant apartment to spy on his ex-girlfriend and film her sleeping.

The former No.3 draft pick played 157 games for the Melbourne Demons between 2004 and 2013 before playing six more games at Fremantle in 2014.

Fairfax reports he now works in an assistant coaching role for Victorian county league club Meringur in the Mildura region.
