HMAS Stirling in Rockingham is set to undergo $83 million in infrastructure upgrades to ensure the Navy base is prepared to house Australia's nuclear submarines.

This Federal Government investment will span across 32 projects at Stirling, including maintenance of the Parkes Wharf, tunnel maintenance and building refurbishments.

The upgrades are expected to create more than 150 local jobs through the Defence Estate Works Program.

“Ensuring our Defence sites are equipped to meet operational and capability requirements, now and in the future is essential to keeping Australians safe,"  Assistant Minister for Defence Matt Thistlethwaite said.

“These projects, to be delivered by local businesses in the Perth region, are supporting local jobs and creating opportunities in the trades and construction industries.”

It comes after the Albanese Government announced an $8 billion investment to upgrade HMAS Stirling over the next decade in preparation for Submarine Rotational Force-West which is set to be established in 2027.

The base will host US and UK submarines and house Australia's future nuclear-powered submarines.
