A wave of positive feedback has prompted the City of Mandurah Council to consider continuing the celebration.
After a successful run this year, The City of Mandurah is looking at bringing back the Winter Wonderland next year.
The council heard a wave of positive feedback from business owners and patrons about this year's event, which prompted Councillors to consider continuing the event next year.
Back in August Mandurah saw the Eastern Foreshore transform into a winter escape featuring an open air ice rink and pop up bar, where 17,600 people flocked for a winter escape.
The idea was originally constructed to attract people back to the foreshore after closing part of Mandurah Terrace due to roadworks from the new bridge.
Spaced Out worked with business owners to find a solution to the decline in foot traffic, the proposed skating area was approved by council in June last year and erected at the beginning of August.
At a committee of council meeting on Tuesday, Councillors were asked to consider a range of things before signing off on a second year of the winter escape.
The list of considerations included limiting the event to solely the ice skating rink, holding it during the July school holidays, and over August or at some other time and how many years the Council wish to continue the event.
Council found more skating aids penguins would need to be hired and a larger range of hire skates needed to be considered too.
This year's event was outsourced, concluding the discussion it was recommended the event be managed in house until 2020, with the intent that it be outsourced in 2021.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Committee’s recommendation to continue the event will be considered at the full Council meeting on December 19.
