The City of Rockingham has moved to adopt their 2021/2022 Annual Budget which will see a rate increase for local home owners.

The budget was adopted by the City of Rockingham Council at its ordinary meeting overnight, which incorporates a 1.5% rate increase.

This equates to 37 cents per week for the average residence, or $19.15 over the full year.

In 2021/2022 progress will be made on the construction of the buildings at the Baldivis District Sporting Complex, Shoalwater Reserve Activity Node and the expansion of Koorana Reserve.

Detailed design of stage two of the Aqua Jetty will be carried out, as will the design of the Stan Twight Reserve Master Plan.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the budget took into consideration the current financial climate experienced by both the City and ratepayers.

“The 2021/2022 budget adopted by Council focuses on meeting the needs of a fast growing community, while simultaneously easing the financial pressure on residents as much as possible,” he said.

“The impacts of COVID-19 are still being felt by both the City and ratepayers alike.

"Despite the uncertainty this poses, the City will continue to deliver key community infrastructure, services and programs in a fiscally responsible manner as outlined in the budget.

"Through its Advocacy Plan, the City will also continue to lobby local, state and federal stakeholders for funding support in areas including transport, tourism and economy, and sport and recreation.”

The City has a number of flexible payment options for residents to pay their rates.

These include Rates Smoothing, instalment payments and direct debits either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

The City also has a financial hardship policy for residential and small business ratepayers who are experiencing financial hardship and difficulty in paying their rates.
