The new Baldivis Sports Complex (BSC) celebrated a major milestone at the weekend, hosting its first ever cricket match.

The game between the White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club and Shoalwater Bay Cricket Club was the first sporting event to be played at the BSC, with the match won by the White Knights.

The BSC is located on Eighty Road and is a project the City is delivering to help meet a shortage of active reserve space in Baldivis for present and future sporting groups.

With the City completing construction on the Main Pavilion, floodlighting, change rooms and maintenance shed earlier this year, White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club has been able to move in for the 2022/2023 summer season.

The Baldivis Brumbies Football Club will call the BSC home from the 2023 winter season.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said the first sporting event to be held at the BSC was a significant event for both the City and local sporting community.

“Construction on the project began back in March 2020, and the City is delighted that community sport is now taking place at this facility," Mayor Hamblin said.

“With the first major milestone now achieved on site, the City looks forward to completing the next phases of the BSC which include wrapping up construction on the Baldivis Indoor Sports Complex and detailed design of the Baldivis Outdoor Recreation Space and the Southern Pavilion and Outdoor Hardcourts.”

White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club President Daniel Cole said it was “fantastic” to play at the new facility.

“Everyone who came down commented on the quality of the facilities. We now have somewhere not only our players can call home, but where we can have our families and supporters come down and enjoy the world class facilities,” Mr Cole said.

“We had close to 100 people come back to the club last Saturday which is not something we could have managed at our previous facility. Seeing so many players, partners and children come back was great. We look forward to a successful season on the field as well as holding many events throughout the year at our new home.”
