Two hundred and fifty international flights out of Tokyo cancelled following rare snow storm.
Its estimated 16-20 centimetres of snow fell on the Japan capital overnight leaving groups of Aussies stranded.
Images of the rare snowfall are emerging online, Kyodo news agency is reporting it's Tokyo's heaviest snowfall in four years.
The SBS report a Qantas flight was due to leave Haneda airport at 10.00pm overnight but was delayed by four hours due to the unpredictable weather conditions.
Passengers took to Twitter updating the rest of the world on the snow situation, one man explained the plane he was on had frozen wings.
I am still in Tokyo. It’s snowing so hard that the wings are frozen. It’s gonna be a LONG night. 😑 #tokyo #Narita #exhausted #vacationmode

Others took videos of the snowfall as traffic on the road was delayed and slow moving into the city.
Took 4 hours in all from #Narita to my Ebisu hotel, through #Tokyo's biggest #snowstorm in 4 years. V grateful to excellent taxi driver pic.twitter.com/oGVnTfQcyj

Mandurah holidaymaker Blake Diggin was snowboarding in popular Japanese Alps village Hakuba, when he returned to Tokyo he captured the snowfall on his Instagram and said he considered cancelling his flight home.
Mr Diggin is due to fly out of Tokyo to Perth at 11.00am this morning.
"Apparently Narita [airport] was closed last night with the snow," he said.
"It dumped down .....Still very snowy today around the place but no new stuff."
One man reported he spent the night on the airport floor and criticised airlines for making rebooking flights home a difficult process.
This is ridiculous. I slept on the floor at #Narita last night, closed down after two inches of snow. Today, no help from @japanairliines @jal in rebooking. Lots of shrugs and helpless looks, but no advice or assistance.
