On Sunday 10th October, The Rotary Club of Rockingham in conjunction with Palm Beach and Baldivis branches have collaborated to create 'Mind the Walk', a Mental Health Awareness Walk.
Registrations are NOW OPEN for this wonderful event! The Walk embraces the fact that community and nature are important factors affecting emotional well being and mental health.
Two different walks are planned; one along Shoalwater Bay, which is an easy 3.5km walk, and one around Lake Richmond along gravel pathways and grassed areas. The Lake Richmond walk will be at staggered times in groups of 30, and will be guided with the local history discussed.
You are welcome to do both walks for a total of 8.5km. The walk starts at 8.30am with groups leaving in staggered 15-minute intervals throughout the morning.
The event is perfect for all ages and embraces this year’s Mental Health Week theme ‘Mental health starts with our children’. Bring your family, friends, and colleagues for a day full of entertainment, history, and fun facts.
Sausage sizzle, ice cream and cool drinks will be available on the day, with all proceeds going towards event fundraising! There will also be some food trucks, games, community group displays, informative talks and live music.
Registrations are now open via ‘Mind the Walk’ Facebook page, or head to the link below, and may be secured by paying the small fee ($20 charge per adult or $30/family; children are a gold coin).
For those who are unable to attend the walk but wish to contribute, donations will be accepted via this link also!
Online registrations will close the day before the event, a few limited registrations may be taken on the day depending on positions available on the walk.
The 3.5km Shoalwater Bay section is wheelchair accessible, however the 5km Lake Richmond walk is not.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, leggings or shorts, T-shirt, light weight waterproof jacket or warmer clothing depending on weather. Bring water bottle, snacks, and picnic lunch.
Funding will be allocated to a local mental health charity South Coastal Health and Community Services. They have a very impressive centre, supporting the physical and mental health needs of women, families, and the unique, diverse communities in the south coast corridor of the Perth metropolitan area. They provide women’s health services; family and domestic violence counselling and groups for women and children; perinatal counselling and groups; Aboriginal child health, maternal health, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, and transport; psychological services, and Early Childhood Centre.
A small amount of the funds will be allocated to Naragebup celebrating our great environment!
